Family Psychotherapy

Family psychotherapy is based on the idea that every family is unique and has its own structure, patterns, and models of interaction and communication. These are elements of relational dynamics that have been established and stabilized over time, in combination with the individual personalities that constitute the family and the broader systems in which the family is integrated and interacts, as well as the different phases of life and changes that may occur.

Family psychotherapy is aimed at any form of family (nuclear, single-parent, LGBTQ+ parents, extended, complex) in which there is some kind of difficulty, problem, or psychological pain. The goal of therapy is to make an effort to understand both the difficulties and the ways in which they are communicated within the framework of family communication, as well as to listen to the voices of all members within the therapeutic context. At the same time, the connection of the family system with other systems in which its members are involved (work, school, social environment, economic and cultural context) is recognized and highlighted, in order to understand their impact as well as the difficulty outside the family microsystem.

Ideally, in family psychotherapy, all family members participate, and the therapist helps them to communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, and develop healthier relationships.
